Zandra Rhodes headed the new wave of British designers who put London at the forefront of international fashion in the 1970s. Her garments have a timeless quality, making them unmistakably Rhodes’ creations; bold, dynamic, colorful and feminine. Zandra designed for Princess Diana, Princess Michael, Freddy Mercury, Diana Ross, Helen Mirren, and Ellen Burstein’s outfit for her Emmy Award. Rhodes has also designed opera sets and costumes for The Pearl Fishers, Magic Flute and Aida. Her vintage dresses are seen at the Oscars and her print design influence is on the world’s catwalks. The Queen made Rhodes a Dame in 2014 for services to fashion.
Dame Zandra Rhodes created a collection specially for Kraftangan, made from Malaysian hand-painted silk batiks using her classic textile motifs; the Banana Leaves (originally created in 1976), Knotty Stripes, Classic Wiggles, St. Michaels Beach, an amazing hand drawn reinterpretation of Zandra’s sketchbook drawing and Acid Flower Squares. These are all engineered motifs to suit the shape of the resulting garments. This Collection was showcased at London Fashion Week SS16 from 18 to 22 September 2015.
Dame Zandra Rhodes will also be making a special appearance at KL Fashion Weekend 2015 for her showcase.
KL Fashion Weekend will also feature appearances by classically trained tenors and sopranos, singing well-loved numbers from the famous operas and musicals.
